Hello all. Here I am again in this abandoned little corner of my world. I am sorry to have left you. However, this is big news. BIG BIG NEWS. I finally did it. After years of edits and rewrites and submissions and rejections and hand wringings and sobbings and angst, I finally said “Screw it!”
I put my baby out for the world to see. At least part of my baby, maybe the foot. No, the head. Definitely the head. It is the first book in my fantasy series :The Bowl of Souls. I even put my own ugly mug out there.
Look at me, grinning at you. It’s enough to make you sick, isn’t it? Nevermind, the reason I brought you here in the first place, I put my book on Amazon.
It is tough for a first time writer to get published today. In truth it can be darn near impossible. The economy is slow, blah blah blah, and publishers are afraid to invest in new talent. They would rather stick with sure things and gimmicks.
My book is a fantasy novel. Right now the industry is looking for the next Twilight or Harry Potter or hunger games. They want contemporary fantasy. My book is more of an epic fantasy. It has warriors and wizards and ogres and dwarves and elves and frankenhorses and goblins and orcs and gorcs and stuff. So because of that, no one is willing to take a chance.
This left me with few choices. I could keep grinding and submitting to the same editors and agents and publishers and hope that one day the intern that is in charge of the rubber stamps decides to pass me along to someone willing to actually read it. Or I could go to one of the many shady self publisher people and hope I don’t get screwed. Or I could take the plunge and put it up on Amazon.
It was a hard decision to make. For years people have suggested I try this. But once you publish something on your own, no publisher will pay the same amount of royalties. You will get paid second printing rights instead.
Here it is: Eye of the Moonrat by Trevor H. Cooley
I put the book out a couple weeks ago at a measly .99 US. The hope is to get the book out there, garner interest, build a fan base. Hopefully word will spread. If I can go to a publisher and say my first book has 3000 downloads on Amazon, maybe that intern will pass it on to the editor. This is the first book in a five book series. I have book two finished and book 3 is 90% complete.
So far in the first two weeks the book has been downloaded 90 times which aint bad. Now if those that read it and like it will pass it on? That would make my day. the synopsis is below.
Justan was raised on the outskirts of the Dremaldrian Battle Academy. He watched his father ascend the ranks within the academy to become one of the most respected warriors in the kingdom. The only thing he has ever wanted is to become an academy student and follow the path of his father. Unfortunately, only the best can enter the academy and Justan is a horrible fighter. Everyone tells him that he is more suited to scholarly work than swordplay. In desperation he hurls himself into training, eager to overcome the doubters and walk into the academy triumphant, unaware that secretive powers plot to disrupt his plans.
Meanwhile, an evil wizard of immense power is using magic to twist the bodies of the creatures of the land and transform them into monsters. With these creatures and the peoples of the wilds, he is building an army . . .
Ogres and dragons, warriors and wizards are destined to clash, their fates guided by The Bowl of Souls.
You may have noticed that I just have a lame picture of trees for a cover. I promise that will change. The cover in in the works. Here is where we are so far.
Aint it cute? See the little moonrats?
So please, give it a chance. Read it, love it, share it, rate it. Make it possible for me to bring you the rest of the series.
Thank you,
Trevor H. Cooley
